Frequently Asked Questions
Which image format is best for the web?
WebP offers the best combination of quality and compression for the web -- it produces files 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality. JPG is a safe fallback when you need maximum compatibility with older software. PNG is ideal for images that require transparency, such as logos and icons.
Does converting images reduce their quality?
It depends on the format and quality setting. PNG is lossless, so quality is always preserved. JPG and WebP use lossy compression, meaning some quality is traded for smaller file sizes. A quality setting of 80% is usually a good balance -- most people cannot tell the difference from the original at that level.
Can I resize images while converting?
Yes. Switch the resize mode to "Custom" and enter maximum width and height values. Images larger than these dimensions will be scaled down while preserving their aspect ratio. Images that are already smaller than the specified dimensions will not be enlarged, preventing upscaling artifacts.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All image processing happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device, ensuring complete privacy. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet -- the tool still works.
How many images can I convert at once?
There is no hard limit on the number of images. The tool processes them one by one to avoid overwhelming your browser's memory. For large batches, the progress bar shows how far along you are. When done, use "Download All as ZIP" to grab everything at once.
